Despite the Delta variant causing further commotion among the auto industry and beyond, the 2021 SEMA Show is happening, live, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in November. And that’s great news, because as much effort that was put into the virtual SEMA360 event last year, things just aren’t the same. The world’s largest automotive aftermarket trade show would always surprise attendees with wild new products and builds around every corner, allowing for people to discover shows within a show. Chevrolet, for example, even dished out design awards for standout builds. These wasn’t possible last year. Happily for 2021, Chevrolet Performance has announced its intent to return to the SEMA Show, along with the return of its prestigious design awards.

Chevrolet Performance At SEMA 2021

Chevrolet has announced that it will bring “over a dozen” concept and “personalized” vehicles to the 2021 SEMA Show. We’re not privy to the specifics just yet, but we expect the 2023 Corvette Z06 to be on display, front and center. By then, the Ferrari-fighting American supercar will have been revealed to the world. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and new COPO Camaro, will likely be in attendance, as well.

As seen during both 2019 and 2020, Chevrolet will likely continue to test the waters and conceptions of electrification with both the aftermarket and performance enthusiast tastes. In 2018, Chevrolet showed off the purely electric eCOPO Camaro drag car. In 2019, Chevrolet Performance first showed off its eCrate concept with a fully electric C10 restomod. Its followup was an electric K5 Blazer in 2020. We’re sure there’s a followup or two planned for this year.

MC&T expects to see the usual mix of Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, Silverado, Colorado and Silverado HD builds and concepts otherwise. And perhaps a new crate engine or two, as well.

2021 Chevrolet SEMA Design Awards

This year’s design awards consist of the Chevy SEMA Car of the Year, Chevy SEMA Truck of the Year, Innovative Use of Technology, and Designer’s Choice. All of these awards will be chosen by a panel of Chevrolet Designers present at the event.

In order for builders to meet the requirements, their build must have the bowtie on the front, an gas, diesel or GM EV system and in-programs photos/renders to Chevrolet along with finished build pics. It is noted that non-competitive EV systems can be used as well.

Along with the requirements above, you must also register with Chevy at www.ChevySEMA.com by October 22 to be in the running for one of the awards.

As always, SEMA is an exciting opportunity for automakers, custom shops and fans of dope rides in general to see some of the latest and most cutting edge tech paired with the wildest designs from the world leaders in automotive excellence.

Let’s hope all driveshafts are attached.
