IS THIS THE FUTURE OF GMC TRUCK AND SUV INTERIORS?

Angles, Angles, And More Angles

GMC Sierra 1500 truck Yukon SUV Hummer EV design sketch

We’re big fans of the GM Design Instagram page, as it constantly shines light on in minds and methods of what goes on in the confines of the Warren, Michigan Technical Center by showing off various theme sketches, highlighting how fun it can be to have a career in automotive design. And the latest image shared from the page continues to do just that. The sketch itself, created by Brian Stoeckel shows off a GMC truck or SUV cockpit with an oblong steering wheel, a massive heads-up-display, and a user-friendly instrument layout. Some of these shapes and colors, like the bronze accents and the toggled switchgear, can be found on the GMC Hummer EV and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.

The biggest things that standout in the sketch are the less-round steering wheel, although not as abstract as the Cybertruck. There also appears to be a massive start/stop button, something the Chevy Silverado EV lacks entirely. The caption of the sketch reads: “A beautiful mix of technical and soft textured elements. Showcasing the modern precision of GMC.” Maybe it’s a preview of the upcoming Sierra EV? We’ll have to stay tuned. The same goes for the 2024 GMC Yukon, which is expected to debut a major refresh inside and out.

It doesn’t specify what platform the vehicle the sketch is referencing or when it was done but it appears to take inspiration from the 2022 Sierra 1500, and the Hummer EV to a certain extent. As far as materials go, the “soft texture” presumably micro suede or something of the sort provide a premium look and feel overall, something you might find on the special edition Neiman Marcus Hummer EV, or the GMC Sierra 1500 Ultimate models. Tech Bronze accents are found on the interior of the Hummer and also appear prominent in the sketch as well as a double top-stitch woven throughout.

The GMC Sierra 1500 features a large screen setup with a 13.4-inch diagonal main hub and 12.3-inch diagonal customizable digital cluster; the sketch looks similar if not a little bigger than that and appears to meld with the dashboard a little better. Also featured in both the sketch and as a standard feature on the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is the 15-inch heads up display. And if this new GM Design sketch is anything to go off of, that digitization is unlikely to change anytime soon.
