The 2024 Ford Mustang isn’t precisely a colorful car for customers, with different shades of blue or gray making up the majority of the 12 color options people can choose from. It’s not comparable to the jailbreak Dodge Challenger and Charger models, which enabled customers to add just about every color Dodge had available to their car without limitations to packages or other options. But for Ford, there’s not a ton of variety, and if you want variety, well, it will cost you as the company has quietly added either a $295 or $495 charge to several paint colors that had previously been free.
Ford Mustang Color Cost: Details
Taking a look at the 2024 Mustang configurator, the only colors that come at no extra cost to 2024 Ford Mustang buyers are Shadow Black, Oxford White, Iconic Silver Metallic, and Carbonized Gray Metallic. None of these are particularly colorful, and if you’re buying the last V8-powered muscle car in production, you’ll want to get it in something that stands out and matches your taste. This isn’t just a vehicle you purchase to commute to work every day.
This information comes from a bulletin sent to Ford dealers stating the change would occur on April 8. It doesn’t take much to confirm this change either, as a quick visit to the 2024 Ford Mustang‘s online configurator confirms that Atlas Blue Metallic, Race Red, Grabber Blue Metallic, and Vapor Blue Metallic are now $295 options, while Dark Matter Gray Metallic now costs $495. The final two color options for the Mustang have yet to see changes to their pricing; this includes Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, a $495 option, and Yellow Splash Metallic, an extra $995.
This puts the Ford Mustang alongside a larger group of automakers offering fewer standard color options, often achromatic (black, white, and gray). If you want something a bit more colorful, you will have to add some green from your wallet. Though Ford does offer a matte finish for the Mustang as an option, which is essentially a paint protectant film that gives the car a more unique look, though it’s a $5,995 option, so as usual, it’s up to the customer to decide, what they want to spend their hard-earned money on.
