Last year, the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor debuted, and it was clear that the 702 horsepower Ram TRX would remain the power and cylinder-count king of the Dinosaurs. But this year, we may see their current reign come to an end with the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R, which has now been confirmed to possess a V8 engine. The specific V8 engine is unknown, but we speculate that it could be the supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 that could boost the power output of the Raptor to around 760 horsepower, as seen in the S550 Mustang Shelby GT500.
Within the 2022 What’s New PDF, Ford states, “After revealing the third-generation F-150 Raptor – the best performing, most connected Raptor yet – for the 2021 model year, the off-road legend adds a new Raptor R for 2022. Raptor R will feature a V8 engine. We look forward to sharing more information about Raptor R soon.”

2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R: What’s Expected
The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor features the high-output 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine with a unique exhaust system that allows the off-road truck to clear its throat when pressing the throttle. On the other hand, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R is rumored to be a limited-edition super truck and will undoubtedly have a price tag to support it. Since its only rival is the Ram 1500 TRX which costs about $70,000, we can see that there’s a high likelihood of the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R having a hefty price tag.
Design sketches may tease the Ford Raptor R. Featuring red extraction hooks and two letterbox slits above the grille, which could once again indicate the much-needed airflow that comes with a powerful V8 engine, maybe even supercharged. Unfortunately, beyond the concept art we have and the confirmation that the Raptor R will feature a V8 engine, we currently have very little to go off besides speculation. But we certainly look forward to learning more about this fantastic new truck this year.
