Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed on Wednesday that the automaker would be bringing a big debut to the event, the seventh-generation, 2024 S650 Ford Mustang. It’s the latest iteration of the Original Pony Car, an American icon, and one of the world’s most recognizable automotive nameplates. To say it’s a big deal is an understatement.

We first heard about the S650 Ford Mustang’s debut through Automotive News. Following that, Farley took to Twitter just a few hours later to confirm along with a specific date, September 14. The Mustang is expected to go into production early next year, and evidence points towards it using the inline-4 and V8 engines carried over from the current generation. The current Ford Mustang model range consists of the entry-level EcoBoost, the iconic GT, go-fast Mach 1, and all-conquering Shelby GT500.

S650 Ford Mustang: Details

It’s unclear what trims the S650 Ford Mustang will have, but it will likely be the last muscle car with an internal combustion engine. Though, it won’t be without some electrification, as hybridization is expected to come to the iconic muscle car likely in 2025. The vehicle’s design will likely gradually evolve from the S550 generation we currently see. Interior improvements are expected to align with the times, such as larger infotainment screens, a configurable digital instrument panel screen, improved ergonomics for larger phones and drinks, and upgraded materials.

The 2022 Detroit Auto Show is scheduled to run from September 14-25, and with the seventh-gen Mustang debuting on day one, it will help kick off the event with a bang. Though, that may be the main highlight. Hopefully, the new generation will see the pony car’s sales increase from its continuous drop over the past few years. Though it remains the most popular Muscle Car on the market despite the decreasing yearly sales numbers.

Stay tuned to MC&T, as we’ll cover all the information on the new Ford Mustang when it debuts.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Ford Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
